FISHFACT is a leading independent provider of fisheries consultancy and fisheries management services. We work throughout the UK and Ireland providing fisheries and aquatic ecology surveys, fisheries impact assessments, and Habitat Directive Assessments (Appropriate Assessment reporting) for projects affecting the aquatic environment and fish populations. Examples of projects we regularly advise on include proposed small and scale hydroelectric schemes, wind farms, and also infrastructure projects such as road schemes, water supply schemes, flood alleviation schemes, and waste water discharges.

We offer a range of fisheries and aquatic ecological consultancy services in the UK and Ireland.

We also provide specialist surveys of rare or protected aquatic species as part of research or monitoring programmes. We have undertaken research projects on species such as Atlantic salmon, European eel, Arctic charr, European smelt, and the three UK and Irish lamprey species.

FISHFACT is able to offer a range of fisheries engineering solutions, including design of fish and eel passes, design of lamprey passes, fish screening advice and design, fish friendly pumps, and advice on underwater noise.  Our staff are all members of the Institute of Fisheries Management (MIFM), with senior staff also members of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental management (MCIEEM) and registered as Chartered Biologists (CBiol) and/or Chartered Environmentalists (CEnv).

We have extensive hydrology capabilities and can provide hydrological impact assessments and design compensation flows for small hydroelectric schemes and water abstraction schemes.  We also regularly provide waste assimilation capacity models for existing and proposed waste water discharge licensing.

We also provide surveys and assessments of river habitats, macroinvertebrate populations (including Freshwater pearl Mussel and White-clawed Crayfish), and aquatic plant communities (including protected plant communities and individual plant species). Dr. Will O’Connor is a Senior Ecologist who has over 25 year’s professional experience. He is a graduate of the University of Wales, Cardiff, and the National University of Ireland, Galway. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology, and a full member of both the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management and the Institute of Fisheries Management. He is a Chartered Environmentalist and a Chartered Biologist.
